LIVE TRAIN TIMES

Cottingham is a large village on the outskirts of Hull. It retains its village community feel with its friendly shopping streets and weekly market. It dates back to Anglo Saxon times and has gone through many changes and much growth over the years thanks to its proximity to the city of Hull.

It has some interesting buildings including St Mary’s Church which dates back to the 14th century and a timber framed manor house which dates back to the 16th or 17th century. Castle Hill hospital on the edge of the village is a large employer in the area and ensures good transport links are maintained.

The award winning weekly market is held every Thursday in the heart of the village. There is always a great variety of stalls and a lovely atmosphere.

Cottingham Day is held every year in July and is a traditional village fete with market stalls, fairground rides, live acts and food.

Cottingham is well known for its spectacular Christmas lights which are switched on each year in early December at the village’s Christmas festival.

The station has had new life breathed into it in recent years and is now home to Working for Health, a CIC that does some fantastic work in the community, and the Old Lamp Room which is much more than a station cafe, it is a destination in itself and well worth treating yourself to a meal or afternoon tea there.
